
The 2011 Oconee District Awards were presented at the Annual District Recognition Dinner held January 13, 2012 at St. Mark United Methodist Church in Seneca.
Special guests in attendance from the Blue Ridge Council were Pickens District Executive Chuck Greene, who previously served as an Interim Oconee District Executive, the new Oconee District Executive Dwight Dukes, Council Commissioner Fred Hyslop, and Council Board Member Dr. Jim Mahony and his wife Ruth. Billy Boggs served as Master of Ceremonies.
Awards presented were: Good Neighbor Award - Dr. Edwin Evans; Cub Scouter of the Year - Tricia Burgess, Pack 125; Cubmaster of the Year - Stephanie Patterson, Pack 16; Scouter of the Year - Jeff Whisnant, Troop 235; Scoutmaster of the Year - Rex Blanton, Troop 226; Unit Commissioner of the Year - Lou Hansen, Pack & Troop 125; Day Camp Staffer of the Year - AJ Davis; and District Award of Merit - Vicki Tymon, Pack 31. In addition it was announced that Oconee District Commissioner Laura Kinard will receive the Silver Beaver Award, the highest recogntion of a volunteer at the council level, during the Blue Ridge Council Banquet on February 9, 2012.
The Oconee District is comprised of 50 Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops, Venturing Crews, Sea Scout Ships, Explorer Posts, and Learning for Life Groups serving over 1,800 youth in Oconee County and Clemson.
